Three Stars of Week 4: Seattle Kraken Secure Six Points on Road Trip
Third Star of the Week: Morgan Geekie (2g, 2a)
Our third star of the week belongs to Morgan Geekie. Before this week, it seemed like the 24-year-old forward had limited opportunities from Seattle Kraken Head Coach Dave Hakstol. Nevertheless, in his abbreviated time on ice, Geekie showed promise.
Hakstol took notice and rewarded Geekie with more playing time. Geekie flourished this week, putting up four points during the three-game road trip, including two goals.
His first goal came at a pivotal moment against Calgary. The Seattle Kraken had lost some momentum after two early second-period goals from the Flames. Geekie helped tilt the ice back in Seattle’s favor.
A 2-on-1 developed in the neutral zone as Jamie Oleksiak intercepted a cross-ice pass. He quickly put it on Geekie’s stick, and the young center confidently slammed the puck into the back of the net, tying up the game.
Next time out, he opened the scoring in Minnesota. After a quiet first period, Ryan Donato‘s pass set up Daniel Sprong with enough room to fire off a wrist shot. Geekie skated around the net, putting himself in the perfect position to deflect the puck after it bounced off Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon.
To finish up the week, Geekie found his name on the score sheet twice in Pittsburgh. This time, he was credited for two secondary helpers, including on Brandon Tanev’s game-winning goal late in the third period.
Hakstol’s confidence in the young forward has grown over the past week. Geekie has not taken this lightly and answered by playing with confidence and determination. Whatever he is doing is working, and we’re hoping that doesn’t stop anytime soon.
