ZAGS 360: Gonzaga’s 2021-22 Non-Conference matchups

Gonzaga Bulldogs
Drew Timme, Gonzaga Bulldogs.

This season the Gonzaga Bulldogs will face some hard-hitting non-conference teams. That will be great in helping them win it all this season.

Last year the Gonzaga Bulldogs were incredible. They remained undefeated until their very last game. Then, they were beaten soundly by the Baylor Bears. If they met the Bears earlier in the season, they would have known what to expect. What type of team could take it all away. While their undefeated season was nothing short of remarkable, it stung to have what many believed would be a total sweep, suddenly in 40 minutes, have the Championship snatched from your grasp.

The win it all team

With number one ranked Chet Holmgren, Drew Timme, Andrew Nembhard, and the other phenomenal players the Gonzaga Bulldogs’ program has put together a team that can repeat last year’s undefeated record and win it all!

This season, the Bulldogs will face an array of more formidable teams. I believe they can overcome anything and defeat any team. it’s just come this November; it won’t be that easy.

Power 5 conference matchups

Last season, the Zags had five Power 5 games scheduled. But, unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic caused them to have to cancel several games. One of the games was against Baylor, and it wasn’t rescheduled. Coach Few and Coach Drew tried their hardest, but a date could not be reached.

There will be challenging games ahead, and I can’t wait. The teams the Bulldogs met the last season were beat handily. Until they met the Baylor Bears. They just made it past the UCLA Bruins! Wasn’t that a fantastic game?

Maybe not so this season. The teams the Zags will be meeting in the Power Five conference are:

  • Texas Longhorns – November 13
  • UCLA Bruins – November 23
  • Duke Blue Devils – November 26
  • Alabama Athletics – December 4
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders- December 18

Tell me this is not exciting! The Bruins, Blue Devils, and Red Raiders! I would love for the Gonzaga Bulldogs to go another season undefeated, but not at the expense of coming up against these teams in the Tournament and being knocked down.

Last season was my first for covering Gonzaga for PNWS. I fell in love with the Bulldogs and not only because of their winning. It was in their will to defeat all that came before them.

The other non-conference games are:

  • Dixie State Trailblazers – November 9
  • Alcorn State Braves – November 15
  • Bellarmine Knights – November 19
  • Central Michigan Chippewas – November 22
  • Tarleton State Texans – November 29
  • Merrimack Warriors – December 9
  • Northern Arizona Lumberjacks – December 20
  • North Alabama Lions – December 28

Don’t let any of the non-conference games make you lose any sleep. We are still talking about the Gonzaga Bulldogs coached by the incomparable Mark Few. The Terrifying Trio of Timme, Kispert, and Suggs may be no more, but even more terrifying players have replaced them.

Chet Holmgren, Drew Timme, and Andrew Nembhard are just three of the terrific players you will see this season. Until then, let’s all wait in anticipation as the Zags tear through another season, just this time coming home with the Championship trophy!

Please stay safe out there!
