Last Game
Washington State 23 – Utah State 26
If there was ever a game where defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory, last Saturday was it. Wazzu had a 23-11 lead after three quarters. Utah State dominated the fourth. Utah State scored touchdowns on both their possessions, racking up 148 yards in 9:31.
Washington State had a chance to score a touchdown in the fourth quarter but was stymied not only by the Aggies defense but also by some questionable play-calling after a first down at Utah State’s 2-yard line. Running back Max Borghi led the offense with 113 total yards and a touchdown. Jahad Woods made 13 stops from his linebacker position.
Outlook
Portland State can move the ball. It’s up to WSU’s secondary to cover some very capable receivers. Additionally, the Cougs need to get pressure on Portland State’s quarterback.
Offensively, Washington State’s primary rushers Borghi and Dion McIntosh should feast on an inferior defense that struggles against the run. It’s also a good game for quarterback Jayden de Laura to set himself up for success. The run and shoot should be on full display.
In a week filled with huge inter-conference matchups, the Washington State Cougars have a game against an FCS school. They should win and come close to covering.
