Washington State Cougars: Final mock draft consensus – Abraham Lucas and Others

Abe Lucas, Washington State Cougars.

This is our final Mock Draft Consensus of 2022. PNWS lets you know where former Washington State Cougars tackle Abraham Lucas and others will go in the NFL Draft.

The NFL Draft is an important time for the Washington State Cougars football program. It’s painful to lose good players, but the Cougars and their fans can celebrate WSU alumni headed to play at the highest level of professional football.

Putting players in the NFL is some of the best advertising new Cougars coach Jake Dickert can get while out on the recruiting trail. Last season Wazzu didn’t have any players get drafted, so Abraham Lucas getting selected this year is a big deal.

Pacific Northwest Sports audited 48 different mock drafts to see where the next wave of Washington Huskies pros might go in the draft. Over 20 went two rounds, and 8 covered all seven rounds. We used top-quality sources ESPN, USA Today, NFL.com, CBS Sports, Pro Football Focus, Walter Football, Pro Football Focus, The Athletic, Sports Illustrated, and more.

Abraham Lucas

Offensive Tackle, 6-6, 315-pounds

  • Highest Draft Spot – Round 2, Seattle Seahawks, 41st overall.
  • Lowest Draft Spot – Round 4, Denver 116th overall.
  • Most Common Draft Spot – Round 2, Chicago 48th overall.

Draft Prospectus

By all indications, Friday will be Abraham Lucas’ day. Aside from two, every mock we looked at pegged him to go in either the second or third round. He was an excellent collegiate pass protector. But coming out of Mike Leach and Nick Rolovich‘s offensive schemes at Washington State, Lucas will need to brush up on his run blocking. Especially if he winds up in Seattle.

At 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, Lucas possesses the ideal length and size to be a tackle in the NFL… He has a nasty streak and is a fierce competitor. Though the run game is not his strength after playing in an Air Raid system, he shows a willingness to finish blocks.Nick Lee, Sports Illustrated.

Of the 17 mock drafts he was on, 8 had Lucas as a second round pick, 7 more thought he would go in Round 3, and the other two believed he’d get drafted early on Day 3. With all due respect to Vinny Iyer (Sporting News) and Lance Carelli (The Lines), there is no way Lucas falls out of the third round.

Others

Max Borghi

Running Back, 5-10, 205-pounds

Two mock drafts had the Washington State Cougars’ do-it-all running back Max Borghi getting selected. One had him going in the fifth round to Dallas, while the other pegged him to land in Green Bay during the final round. In my mocks, I had the Seahawks taking him at 229 if Ty Chandler was off the board.

Borghi’s stat line has been solid in all three seasons he was healthy and he offers rushing and receiving versatility out of the backfield… (His) acceleration turns into quality top speed to the perimeter or in the open field, but it is hard to project a successful NFL career given his issues creating for himself and an unwillingness to hammer it inside. – Lance Zierlein, nfl.com.

Jaylen Watson

Defensive Back, 6-3, 205-pounds

It looks like the Cougs’ defensive back isn’t held in high regard. At this point, most big boards have Jaylen Watson at the bottom of what would be Round 7, but only one mock draft actually believes his name will get called, and it will be late on Saturday.
