At Stake

Friday’s tilt is huge for the Cougars program. A win makes them Bowl eligible, only the sixth Pac-12 team to do so in 2021, and there is no guarantee anyone else reaches six wins. If everything breaks for them, the Cougars could be as high as fourth in the conference. If Oregon goes to the College Football Playoff, there is a chance (albeit slim) at being the third choice.

Outlook

Although they have been better over their last four games, including a win over Cal two weeks ago, the Wildcats are a bad team. They are last in scoring per game (17.3 Pac-12, 17.7 overall) and second-worst in points allowed (29.5, 30.3). UA is on their third quarterback of 2021. True freshman Will Plummer only completed 55.6 percent of his passes and threw more than double the number of interceptions (7) than he has touchdowns (3).

The biggest why reason Arizona doesn’t give up more than 373 yards per game is their opponents often have good field position after the offense fails to produce.

As mentioned above, Washington State is the team that has something to play for. After all the Cougars went through this season, including a 1-3 start, they overcame and can still finish in the top half of the Pac-12. How many fans thought that would happen at the end of September?

Expect Washington State’s offense to light it up. It’s a game where Cougars QB Jayden de Laura can show everyone what he’s got. Borghi, McIntosh, Harris, and Jackson end their Washington State football careers with a bang.
