This week the Huskies look to break .500 against the Oregon State Beavers. Let’s take a closer look at the history between the two teams and a few things to watch for in this years matchup.

After a rough start to 2021, the Washington Huskies have won two games in a row to even their record at 2-2. The Huskies now take on the Oregon State Beavers who will be a tough opponent. The Beavers are 3-1after winning three straight. Last week they beat the USC Trojans on the road 45-27.

This will be the 105th meeting between these two schools. The Huskies lead 66-34 along with 4 ties. The Beavers haven’t won in a decade, losing nine straight. UW’s last win was in Corvallis was on November 19, 2011, by a score of 38-21. In last year’s Covid-shortened season Washington won 27-21 at Husky Stadium.

How did last seasons Huskies victory happen?

Most of the scoring happened in the first half. The Huskies led 24-21 at halftime. The Beavers made their last score with 18 seconds remaining in the first half. The only score in the second half was a 23-yard field by Peyton Henry with 1:45 seconds remaining in the game for the Huskies.

Dylan Morris passed for 141 yards completing 14 of 24. It was the running game that carried the Huskies. Rushing for 267 yards, lead by Sean McGrew’s 91 yards and one of the team’s three touchdowns on the ground.  Oregon State had 167 on the ground. BJ Baylor had 41 yards on eight carries and one touchdown.  He wasn’t the primary running back and this year’s quarterback is different as well. During Game 1 against Purdue where Oregon State lost 30-21 Sam Noyer started under center however, Chance Nolan took over mid-game and has been the starter in the last three games.

What to expect this time around

This year’s game could be totally different. The Beavers with a high potent offense against a good defensive Husky team. Last week against USC the Beavers had 532 yards total yards. Beavers quarterback Chance Nolan completed 15 of 19 passes for 213 yards with 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. On the ground, though the Beavers ran the ball going for 319 yards. BJ Baylor was the Beavers’ primary running back carrying the ball 23 times for 158 yards, though he didn’t find the endzone. The Huskies will have to watch for the feet of quarterback Nolan as well this week as he went for 57yards on 5 runs.

In the passing game, two receivers to look out for are Tyjon Lindsey and Tre’Shaun Harrison. Lindsey had five catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns while Harrison had four catches for 52 yards and a touchdown. Just like the California Golden Bears the Oregon State Beavers will have a balanced attack. This should be an interesting game where the Huskies defense will have to show up along with Washington’s offense to keep Oregon State’s offense off the field as much as possible.

Go Dawgs!
