Washington Huskies release revised 2020 football schedule
Friday Afternoon, the Washington Huskies released their Pac-12 only football Schedule.
A few weeks ago, the Pac-12 said due to COVID-19 concerns; they were going to play a conference only football schedule in 2020. Friday, they followed through with the plan. While the new Washington Huskies schedule isn’t a radical departure from what everyone thought it would be, there are some significant changes, other than the elimination of non-conference opponents.
September
- 9/26 vs. Stanford Cardinal
October
- 10/3 vs. Arizona Wildcats
- 10/10 at California Golden Bears
- 10/17 BYE
- 10/24 vs. Oregon State Beavers
- 10/31 at Oregon Ducks
November
- 11/6 vs. Colorado Buffaloes
- 11/14 at Utah Utes
- 11/21 vs. UCLA Bruins
- 11/27 at Washington State Cougars – APPLE CUP
December
- 12/5 at Southern California Trojans
- 12/10 Pac-12 Championship Game
What stays the same
Washington still plays the same nine Pac-12 teams they were initially scheduled to face and in the same places. Most importantly, the Apple Cup Game against WSU is still the tradition weekend after Thanksgiving.
What is different
The first thing that jumps off the page is the Washington Huskies’ season gets pushed back by almost a month. Originally UW was due to open the conference schedule on October 3 at Oregon, followed by Oregon State at Husky Stadium the next week.
To make a delayed start possible, the Huskies will open the conference season a week earlier at home against Stanford on September 26. The UO game is now on Halloween.
To play a 10-game schedule, and to give each team five home and five road games, UCLA will come to Seattle on November 21.
However, the most significant change is the bye week. On the original conference schedule, the Washington Huskies went straight through conference play from October 3 – November 27, with no break. The new model has them off after the third Pac-12 game.
Finally, the Apple Cup game against WSU will still happen the same day, but it won’t end the season as it traditionally does. In what could be a preview of the Pac-12 Championship game two weeks later, the Washington Huskies head to Los Angeles for the finale against USC.
