Interesting Trends
Last week’s win broke the Washington Huskies’ four-game losing streak. It doesn’t look good for Washington’s chances of covering a 33-point spread. They are 4-11 in the last 15, as well as 3-7 at Husky Stadium ATS. The total has gone under in 14 of UW’s last 20.
Portland State is currently on a three-game losing streak. They’ve also dropped 11 straight on the road. From a betting standpoint, the Vikings are 5-1 against the line in their last six and have also covered the last five times they played against a Pac-12 team.
Outlook
The Kalen DeBoer era at Washington got off to a fine start with a 45-20 win over Kent State. New quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw for 345 yards and 4 touchdowns before giving way to Dylan Morris late in the game.
Another transfer Wayne Taulapapa seems to have the top running back spot locked down. He had 57 yards and a touchdown in his Washington Huskies debut.
Look for the Washington Huskies to open it up again. Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan will give PSU’s defensive backs more fits than San Jose State’s did.
The UW offensive line will have to be on their toes this week. PSU had 7 sacks last week, paced by Tyreese Shakir, who had 3 on his own.
Dual-threat quarterback Dante Chachere leads Portland State. At San Jose State, he threw for 270 yards and ran for another 83. The Huskies’ defensive backs will have their hand’s full covering receivers Beau Kelly, Nate Bennett, and Emmanuel Daigbe.
The Washington Huskies should win this one and go to 2-0 before facing Michigan State next week. Although covering 33 points might be a big ask.
