Interesting Trends

The Washington Huskies broke their two-game streak of close but not quite, with a shaky 21-16 win at winless Arizona. As hard as it is to believe with the way UW looked at times this year, they are only one game behind Pac-12 North Division leaders, Oregon.

Washington lost their last two games against this week’s hosts and has won just 3 of the previous 13 games between the teams, including six straight in Palo Alto. If you want to bet on the Huskies this game, check twice. Against the spread, Washington is:

  • 1-8 in the last 9 games.
  • 1-5 in the last 6 against Stanford.
  • 0-6 in the last 6 Pac-12 games.

Stanford dropped a disappointing 34-31 game to Washington State two weeks ago. They come into this contest as losers in three of their last four games, which cut the momentum of a five-game conference winning streak. The Cardinal haven’t been very good at covering the spread recently and are 1-5 in their previous six games.

Last Game

Washington Huskies 21 – Arizona 16

An ugly “W” for the Huskies against winless (since 2019) Arizona, but a win is a win. The upset alert was on as UW started sluggishly and went to the locker room down 13-0 at the half. They rallied after the break to score three touchdowns. Terrell Bynum had 5 catches for 143 yards and a score. Defensive lineman Tuli Letuligasenoa had a sack and an interception to lead the Huskies’ defense.

Stanford 31 – WSU 34 (October 16)

It was an entertaining game for the most part. A 13-0 first quarter lead disappeared as Stanford couldn’t stop Washington State’s talented receivers. Quarterback Tanner McKee has his best game of the season, going 23 of 32 for 273 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Outlook

Both teams are trying to overcome injuries to top players. The Huskies are without playmaking linebacker Eddie Ulofoshio and offensive tackle Jaxson Kirkland, while Stanford won’t have leading receiver Brycen Tremayne due to a broken leg.

So far, the run has been very effective against Washington this year. With Tremayne out, Stanford will rely more on their rushers to set up better pass-catching opportunities against the Washington Huskies’ great secondary.

Stanford’s defense is nothing to write home about. They are last in the conference for yards allowed (405.4) and 11th for points allowed per game (28).

Washington is still in the hunt for a Pac-12 North Division title. To remain in the chase, this is a must-win game. Look for the Huskies to step up to the challenge and pull out a narrow 24-23 victory.
