Interesting Trends
The Washington Huskies have lost their last two games. Both times they were in contention but ultimately fell a score short. Additionally, UW only has two wins in their previous seven games. It’s a little worse against the spread, with a 1-8 mark recently. On the bright side, Washington is 5-1 against Arizona overall and against the Wildcats in Tucson.
If you thought Washington has fallen on hard times lately, the Arizona Wildcats have it much worse. This year, they are winless (0-6), including a 21-19 home loss to Northern Arizona, went winless in 2020 (0-5), and lost their final seven games of 2019.
All totaled, that’s 18 straight defeats. The last time Arizona won a football game was October 5, 2019. If you are counting at home, the Wildcats haven’t won a football game in 107 weeks.
Last Game
UCLA 24 – Washington 17
Aside from a nice third quarter run that saw the Washington Huskies tie the game at 17, UCLA was in control. Washington’s defense played good enough to keep them in it, but in the end, the Bruins’ relentless run game wore them down.
Colorado 34 – Arizona 0
Last week, not only did Arizona lose, they got blown out by 34 points against previously winless Colorado. In all fairness, the Wildcats were down to their final scholarship quarterback, true freshman Will Plummer. Of course, that’s no excuse for their defense giving up so many points to what was a fellow winless team.
Outlook
It’s a battle of two teams going in the wrong direction. While the Washington Huskies have staggered to a 2-4 record, their upcoming opponent Arizona is a miserable 0-6, including 0-3 in the Pac-12. UW has lost two games in a row, and they must right their ship against the winless Wildcats.
Huskies quarterback Dylan Morris is without three of his top receivers this week. Fortunately, he still has Cade Otton, Jalen McMillan, and Taj Davis available. After some poor performances, Washington’s run game looks to be turning the corner. This week is also a good chance for the Huskies often criticized offensive line to build some momentum.
Huskies star pass rusher Zion Tupuola-Fetui returned to the team last week from a spring Achilles injury. If he plays, Arizona presents a fantastic opportunity to get him up to speed. The Wildcats have a limited offense led by an inexperienced quarterback.
The Washington Huskies will cover the 17.5 point spread and look good doing so. That would be a big step toward turning around their lackluster 2021 season.
