Interesting Trends
The Washington Huskies are 4-2, both straight up and against the spread, in their last 6 games. They covered five straight against Arizona at Husky Stadium. The total went over in 6 of Washington’s last 7 games.
Going by numbers alone, the trends don’t look good for Arizona. The Wildcats are 4-16 overall and have only won 2 of their last 20 conference games. They are also 1-12 on the road.
Outlook
Expect an offensive explosion on Saturday afternoon. Arizona and the Washington Huskies average a combined 72.2 points.
Also, Arizona gives up the second most points (34.4) per game in the conference. Huskies quarterback Michael Penix will attack the Wildcats’ defense with his cadre of talented receivers and tight ends.
But it’s just as likely that head coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb turn to the run game, especially early. Cam Davis, Wayne Taulapapa, and Richard Newton will lead the Huskies’ rushing attack against a suspect run defense. The Cats allow a league second-most 228.8 yards per game against the rush.
Over the last several weeks, Washington’s pass rush disappeared. If for no other reason than pride, the front seven should be motivated to make some tackles for loss.
They’ll have to if they want to overcome a leaky defense that gave up close to 400 yards against the Pac-12’s second-worst offense last week.
This week, Arizona quarterback Jayden de Laura can beat opponents in several different ways. It’s time for this unit to take a good hard look in the mirror and hold themselves accountable.
The Huskies season that started so promising was derailed after their second straight loss. Both of those defeats came on the road. Put money on the fact that they will leave Husky Stadium with a win.
While the cash is out, put some of it on Penix. Washington’s signal caller didn’t have his best performance last week and still threw for over 300 yards.
