Interesting Trends
The Washington Huskies are both 4-1 straight up and against the spread in their last 5 games. They haven’t had much success against ASU in the last two decades, going 2-12 (1-13). That includes 7 straight losses at Sun Devil Stadium.
Arizona State has only won 1 out of 6 and 2 of 8. The total has gone under in 5 of 6.
Outlook
UW stayed in the Top 25 despite last week’s loss to UCLA and now looks to work their way back up the polls. Last game out, Southern Cal torched ASU for 328 yards. The Washington Huskies have the third-best passing offense in FBS. They might burn Sun Devil Stadium to the ground.
Get ready for Michael Penix Jr’s Western Tour stop in Tempe, Arizona. He leads all of FBS with1,733 passing yards, and his 16 passing touchdowns are fifth-best. But Penix is more than his numbers.
The Indiana transfer demonstrated remarkable maturity this season in leading the Washington Huskies. He gets everyone involved in the offense, making UW very difficult to defend.
That said, don’t be surprised when Washington pounds the ball down ASU’s throat. First of all, Arizona State yields 173.4 yards per game on the ground. Second, U-Dub has a running back, Wayne Taulapapa, who is looking for redemption after his early fumble changed the tide of last week’s game.
Washington’s defense is pretty good too. They also seek redemption after a disappointing performance against UCLA.
ASU quarterback Emory Jones may be running for his life from a very hungry Huskies pass rush. Before taking down Jones, the defense has to stop running back Xazavian Valladay. The senior transfer is averaging 6.2 yards per carry.
The Huskies should cover the spread. As far as the over/under goes, Washington will score points, but ASU might not hold up their end of the deal.
