Seattle Seahawks vs. NY Jets – 4 takeaways from big 40-3 win

Seattle Seahawks
D.K. Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks.

Sunday afternoon at Lumen Field, the Seattle Seahawks handily defeated the New York Jets 40–3. These are our four biggest takeaways from the game.

If the Seattle Seahawks ever needed a “get right” game, Sunday was it. The Seahawks played the “JV” New York Jets at Lumen Field. Last week Gang Green had their first victory in hand until they Jets’d themselves against Las Vegas. If you don’t know what I mean by “Jets’d themselves,” think back to the Butt Fumble. With that as the backdrop, the Seahawks were basically assured a victory. All they literally had to do is take the field, and they get a win.

New York’s first drive of the game gave flashbacks to last week’s Seahawks vs. Giants fiasco. An inferior team not being inferior. But NYJ’s first drive ended with three points. The Seahawks answered with a Metcalf TD. Ballgame, literally. New York didn’t score another point all game. Meanwhile, Seattle had no problem racking up points like a video game.

This game was about as perfect as it could be. A few plays were shocking. The early first quarter pass to David Moore that he dropped. Also, the Jets’ big kick off return that kicker Jason Myers stopped. Jamal Adams dropped a pick that was in his hands (more on his day later). Russell Wilson‘s interception is another play that comes to mind. He shouldn’t feel too bad. Safety Marcus Maye was a hell of a play.

Sunday’s game left 12’s feeling just like they did when the Seahawks Seahawks were undefeated at 5-0. Any game where your backup QB plays the entire fourth quarter (not because of injury) is a good game. I imagine New York wished the Seahawks played their backups up the entire game. They might have actually had a shot.

With Los Angeles winning on Thursday and Arizona winning big against the G-Men, the Seahawks needed a win to keep pace in the NFC West race. Seattle is still tied with the Rams record-wise but is in second place in the division due to the Rams owning the tiebreaker. The rematch is in two weeks at Lumen Field. So, let’s get to what brings you all here. Honestly, it was tough to select just a few points. The excitement makes it so hard.

Jamal Adams

Ok, so this one is easy. Anytime a player sets a record, he’s a talking point. Adams broke the record for sacks by a defensive back in a season. Former NFC West player Adrian Wilson held the record at 8. Adams now has 8.5 sacks on the year, and there are still three more games. I fully expect Adams to record double-digit sacks. Aaron Donald leads the league in sacks at 12.5.  He won’t be this year’s sack leader, but Adams finishing with 10-12 total sacks on the year is possible. 2020 has been a strange year, so who knows, maybe Adams does lead the league in sacks.
