Yahoo Senior Football Writer Charles Robinson believes the Seattle Seahawks are still in play for both Jadaveon Clowney and Antonio Brown.

Pat McAfee had Yahoo Senior Football Writer Charles Robinson on his show Tuesday afternoon. Robinson gave updates on both Jadeveon Clowney and Antonio Brown concerning the Seattle Seahawks. It’s looking good on both fronts.

Clowney

It’s easy to understand why Jadeveon Clowney would want to bet on himself. Unfortunately for him, the high stakes poker he played with his career this offseason was a bust. Despite saying that his main priority is to play for a Super Bowl contender, Clowney’s refusal to accept less than $18M per season is the reason why he still remains unsigned.

Over the weekend, there were reports of Baltimore making a run at Clowney. They have added cap space from the termination of Earl Thomas’ contract. Even so, the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans are the current favorites to land the edge rusher, according to Robinson.

Back in June, Clowney turned down $15-17M per season from Cleveland. When he didn’t sign, the Browns went in a different direction. So his ship with the richest treasure sailed into the horizon. The Seattle Seahawks offered Clowney $12M for the 2020 season before he hit free agency. They may not have that much available unless they cut a veteran or two to make room.

As Robinson said, it’s up to Clowney to decide how much less he’ll take to get back on the field.

Brown

Rumors about Antonio Brown joining the Seattle Seahawks have been rampant since he posted videos of himself working out with Russell Wilson during the COVID-19 break. On August 3, head coach Pete Carroll said the team was open to bringing Brown in after his suspension. Carroll did note that the Seahawks were in no rush to get a deal done and it was in GM John Schneider’s hands.

On July 31, the NFL suspended Brown for the first eight games of the 2020 season, as a result of violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy. Brown pleaded No Contest to felony and misdemeanor charges from an incident with a moving company back in January. As long as he stays out of trouble and continues counseling, Brown will be reinstated at mid-season.

According to Robinson, both Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Geno Smith are pushing hard for the former four-time All-Pro to join the team. He said he would be shocked if the Seahawks didn’t make a run at signing Brown.

There is no question about Brown’s talent. His character, on the other hand, has been questionable, to say the least. Aside from the disciplinary issues, Brown has been very critical of his former teams and teammates on social media. For their part, neither the Pittsburgh nor Las Vegas locker rooms appear to be sad that he isn’t there either.

Brown may still face further league discipline due to allegations of sexual assault from his former personal trainer. That incident is still under investigation by the NFL.
