Timely Defense

It wasn’t Seattle’s best performance this year, but they showed up when the game was on the line. For three quarters, this unit made life miserable for the Washington Football Team. They put the screws to Haskins. He appears to struggle in reading the defense.

The Seattle Seahawks D sacked Haskins four times, hit him seven times, racked up six tackles for loss, and broke up seven passes. The big-name defensive players made their marks. It wasn’t hard to spot Bobby Wagner, who was around the ball all day wrapped up tackles like a video game. Jamal Adams extended his sacks in a season by a defensive back record to 9.5. . Edge rushers L.J. Collier and Carlos Dunlap each had a sack.

Some of the lesser household names made a big impact on Sunday as well. Ugo Amadi made some big-time tackles. I don’t mean big as impact or important but big as in tackling bigger players. He wasn’t afraid to take on anyone in a different cored jersey holding the ball. Cornerback D.J. Reed Jr. also had a monster game. More on him later.

There is still work to be done by the defense. They allowed a converted tight end, Logan Thomas, to catch 13 of 15 targets for 101 yards. Thomas and Cam Sims owned the middle of the field. Then there was J.D. McKissic, the former Seahawks running back who exacted some revenge on his former team by catching nine passes for 56 yards and a TD. However, most of his production came from short throws where he did the rest of the work.

D.J. Reed

Starting in place of injured corners Quinton Dunbar and Tre’ Flowers, D.J. Reed once again stepped it up. He totaled six tackles (four solos), three passes defended, and an interception that he returned for 20 yards.

Not too bad for a guy who was cut by San Francisco earlier this year. When everyone is healthy, Reed most moves to the slot. But for he’s starting opposite Shaquill Griffin. By the way, Griffin also had a pick.
