In what can be described as an impressive win by the Seattle Seahawks, they upset the Giants 27-13 on Sunday at Lumen Field.
The Seahawks defense was on point all game, as New York’s only touchdown came on a two-yard drive after a Tyler Lockett fumble. They also held the Giants to 78 rushing yards.
The game started incredibly slow, as both teams punted on their first three drives.
It wasn’t until there were just over 12 minutes left in the second quarter that Seattle put points on the scoreboard with a touchdown pass from Geno Smith to D.K. Metcalf.
Seattle led at halftime10-7.
The Giants got field goals on their first two drives of the second half. But that was the end of their scoring for the day.
The Seahawks got a field goal and two more touchdowns of their own. Their second TD came on a 33-yard bomb from Smith to Lockett, and the third was a 16-yard scamper from Kenneth Walker IIII that ended in the endzone.
Their defense dominated in every phase of this game and made a decent team in the New York Giants look bad on offense.
2nd Dishonorable Mention
The second dishonorable mention this week goes to Tyler Lockett for several reasons. First, his fumble led to the Giants’ only TD. Also, Lockett dropped a pass that would have been a sure Seahawks touchdown.
1st Dishonorable Mention
This week’s first dishonorable mention goes to the head referee. Usually, we would throw a flag on Jerome Boger for a bad call, but this was different.
Boger called a sideline encroachment penalty on the Seattle Mariners during the fourth quarter. He never acknowledged his mistake and just kept on calling the game.
Our Dud of the Week goes to a group of guys that are supposed to be a cohesive unit but weren’t anything near cohesive. The Seattle Seahawks offensive line looked bad for most of the game.
They gave up 3 sacks and a total of 10 QB hits. Additionally, the O-Line failed to open very many holes for the running backs, who had 61 yards on 20 carries.
Fortunately for them, Geno Smith had a decent game even while under duress from New York’s defense. He bailed out the line several times with heads-up plays.
When defeating a 6-1 team, there are plenty of candidates for Stud of the week.
2nd Honorable Mention
Tight end Will Dissly is our second honorable mention, and it isn’t for his12 yards on 2 catches. He’s here for his play on special teams, more specifically, punt coverage.
First, he forced a fumble late in the second quarter that led to a field goal. Then with 6:48 left in the game, he recovered a fumble that led to Kenneth Walker’s 16-yard rushing touchdown, which put the Seattle Seahawks up by 14.
1st Honorable Mention
This week’s first honorable mention goes to QB Geno Smith for leading the Seattle Seahawks to another victory. Even the struggles of his offensive line couldn’t stop #7 from pulling out a win.
Smith finished the game 23 of 34 for 212 yards and 2 TDs. He could have had one more touchdown if Lockett held on to a pass that went right through his hands.
This week’s Stud is the Seattle Seahawks pass rush. They terrorized Giants quarterback Daniel Jones all day.
The defense combined for 5 sacks, 4 additional tackles for loss, and 8 quarterback hits. On a day when the offense was so/so, they dominated and only surrendered 13 points to a team that many considered one of the NFC’s best.
