Seattle Seahawks start to turn around their offseason

After a slow start, the Seattle Seahawks finally got their offseason in gear. A trade and key free agent signing are just the beginning.

It looks like the glacier known as the Seattle Seahawks offseason is starting to move. They are making trades and signing players. Help is on the way for a team that’s had a rough few months.

Russell Wilson was very vocal in his recent complaints. He felt uninvolved and unprotected (literally and physically). Russ’ pleas have been somewhat answered by Seahawks management.

Reinforcements are coming to the Emerald City. Even better, the Seahawks are starting to recoup what they have lost or will lose. General Manager John Schneider has been busy the last few days.

Gabe Jackson

First up is guard Gabe Jackson. On Wednesday, Schneider traded with the Oakland Raiders to acquire the seven-year pro from Mississippi State. Jackson replaces the retired Mike Iupati at left guard next to Duane Brown. Replace is the wrong word because Jackson is an upgrade. Now if the Seahawks could just do something about Brandon Shell.

Gerald Everett

On the heels of the Jackson trade, Schneider went out and signed another offensive weapon. Tight end Gerald Everett signed as a free agent for a reported $7M ($6M guaranteed). He should mitigate the loss of third receiver David Moore while players such as Freddy Swain and Penny Hart work their way into more prominent roles.

Ethan Pocic

Last year’s surprise at training camp, Ethan Pocic is on his way back. He came out of nowhere to overtake BJ Finney and win the starting center job. While Pocic is still a work in progress, but his familiarity with RW3 can’t be denied.

What’s next

Several holes still need to be filled. At this point, there’s no reason to believe outside linebacker K.J. Wright won’t return. Seattle also has to replace edge rusher, Carlos Dunlap. He liked the team, and reports are he’d like to play for the Seahawks again. To do so, they need to either restructure contracts or cut someone loose.

Wrap up

Finally, the Seattle Seahawks made some key offseason moves. Not only do those moves make the 12s happy, somewhere Russell Wilson has to be smiling.
