Seattle Seahawks should bring back Golden Tate

The Seattle Seahawks still have an opening for a third receiver. They should bring back Golden Tate.
Last season, the Seattle Seahawks signed Josh Gordon and Phillip Dorsett to be the third receiver alongside Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf. Dorsett injured his foot in camp and never played. Meanwhile, Gordon served another lengthy suspension for violations of the NFL drug policy. When it was finally time for him to get on the field, he suffered a relapse and received another suspension. So neither of them took a single snap in 2020.
Fortunately, David Moore was up to the task. The fourth-year pro palled in all 16 games, pulled down 35 passes for 417 yards and 6 touchdowns. A great season to set up his 2021 free agency.
Moore signed with Carolina in March, leaving the Seahawks WR3 position vacant. With only three draft picks this year and bigger holes to fill. Freddie Swain has the job by default, but that’s probably not good enough. The free agent market by now is slim, but a familiar face can more than adequately fill the role, Golden Tate.
It didn’t go well for Tate in New York last year. He clashed with new Giants Head Coach Joe Judge. That led to his benching during the season and subsequent release in March.
He can play
Some might say at 32-years-old, Tate’s career is just about over. It’s true he’s on the downside of a nice career, but he proved to be a valuable pass-catcher for young QB Daniel Jones. A solid route runner with good hands, Tate is the perfect third option for a vet like Russell Wilson.
Knows the System
Another benefit of Tate rejoining the Seattle Seahawks is his prior relationship with both Wilson and Pete Carroll. The way Carroll wants to run an offense isn’t vastly different than it was when Tate left in 2013. He should have little problem fitting back in.
Many 12’s (and RW3) want the team to sign Antonio Brown. Due to his checkered off-field history, he might be too toxic. Tate isn’t a bad consolation prize.
