Offensive Line
Four players on the other side of the ball may also be options. Steve Avila (TCU) and O’Cyrus Torrence (Florida). Both prospects could be good fits for an offensive line weak on the interior.
Avila is a dominating run blocker but can sometimes lose his technique in pass protection. He has the size and strength to hold his ground against rushers but, in all likelihood, is best suited to a power-running-styled offense.
Torrence is a more polished prospect and a much better pass blocker. He’s not as fluid of a player as Avila and can be late on assignments when pulling or in schemes that require movement. He generates a strong push and can overpower defenders when blocking straight on.
There are also centers Joe Tippmann (Wisconsin) and John Michael Schmitz (Minnesota). Tippmann is very similar to former Hawks center Ethan Pocic. Tall (6’6″) and athletic, he can get to the second level and lock up defenders. Power can sometimes be an issue, but Tippmann has shown the ability to use leverage and angles to finish his blocks.
Schmitz is a more powerful but less athletic blocker who can be beaten by speed rushers. A high football IQ player, he adjusts his technique to slide and slow rushers down.
