The Seattle Seahawks’ quixotic quest to save their season continues against the L. A. Rams. Will Russ and company keep things moving against Sean McVay’s squad?

This Sunday’s matchup with the Los Angeles Rams will tell us everything we need to know about the current state of the Seahawks. After victories over the 49ers and hapless Texans, the 12’s are still clinging to fantasies about the playoffs. While the postseason is most likely out of reach (but not impossible), a strong showing against the Rams may buy the current roster another season together. Here are some key matchups to watch.

Seahawks Secondary vs. LAR Passing Offense

Seattle may catch a break against L.A.’s cadre of receivers with Odell Beckham on the COVID-19 list and Robert Woods out for the season. The Legion Of Gloom has struggled mightily this year, and for Seattle to have any chance at all, they’ll need to keep Matt Stafford and Cooper Kupp from decimating the defense.

Seahawks Offensive Line vs. LAR Pass Rush

Aaron Donald tore apart the Seahawks season and Russell Wilson‘s finger in the team’s first meeting of the season on October 7. He’s made dominating Seattle’s offensive line a habit. With edge rusher Leonard Floyd having another good season and Von Miller still looking for his first sack in Rams blue and gold, Sunday will be a challenging task for the Hawks O-Line. Their task may be even harder if right tackle Brandon Shell is a no-go again this week.

Seahawks Passing Offense vs. LAR Secondary

Tyler Lockett is coming off another huge game and would have drawn bracket coverage. Unfortunately, he’s on the COVID-19 list and will miss the game. That means D.K. Metcalf has to pick up the slack. A task made somewhat easier when the Rams placed All-Pro corner Jalen Ramsey on their COVID list.

Metcalf averages a mediocre 58 yards a game and has broken the 100-yard mark just once all year. For Seattle to run the table and finish above .500, they’ll need much more from him on Sunday. Both Freddie Swain and Dee Eskridge are battling injuries this week. At least one of them needs to step up.

With all the losses and injuries to Seattle’s receivers, expect Wilson to make use of his tight ends Will Disly and Gerald Everett. Both are capable of making big plays.

After beating the Cardinals Monday night, the Rams come into this game on an emotional high. They’ve been wildly inconsistent all season and could be ripe for a letdown game on Sunday. Do you think the Seattle Seahawks can pull off the upset and keep hope alive? Let us know in the comments.
