Seattle Seahawks offense gets spark from tight ends
The Seattle Seahawks are getting great production from their group of tight ends this season. They contribute more to the offense than anyone expected.
The Seattle Seahawks are making headlines for their surprising offense. Quarterback Geno Smith is the Cinderella Man story of the NFL.
He doesn’t do it by himself. D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are the main attractions. But Smith gets plenty of help from his three tight ends, Will Dissly, Noah Fant, and Colby Parkinson.
Let’s examine how the tight end trio contributes to Seattle’s offense.
Will Dissly
Will Dissly is the Seattle Seahawks starting tight end. They drafted him in 2018 (fourth round, 120th overall) from the University of Washington.
Early in his career, Dissly suffered some serious injuries. But he’s rebounded nicely. Since 2020, the Montana native has played in 36 of 38 games.
His best season was in 2019, when he had 262 yards and 4 touchdowns. Currently, he’s on pace to have an even better season.
Through 5 games this year, Dissly has 14 receptions for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns. He’s been a reliable outlet for Smith and a steady blocker in the run game.
Noah Fant
In the off-season, Noah Fant was part of the return the Seattle Seahawks got for Russell Wilson, along with Shelby Harris and Drew Lock for Russell Wilson.
A budding star, Fant caught 170 passes for nearly 2,000 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Broncos in his first three NFL seasons. It’s still early in the season, but he’s had a hard time getting the ball.
Last week, Smith targeted Fant a season-high 5 times. The tight end caught 3 balls for 49 yards. That brings his Seattle Seahawks totals to 13 receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown.
He’s a great “Plan B.”
Colby Parkinson
It seems like Colby Parkinson is the forgotten man sometimes. The fourth-round pick from Stanford (2020, 133rd overall) has been known more for his blocking than his pass-catching during three seasons in the NFL.
This year Parkinson is getting a little more attention. Often overlooked by defenses, all of a sudden, he makes a big play to bail the Seattle Seahawks out of tough situations.
He has 6 receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown in 2022, all career highs.
Tight End Group
As a group, the Seattle Seahawks tight ends have 33 receptions for 357 yards and 5 touchdowns. For comparisson, Metcalf has 28, 357, and 2. As a matter of fact, Metcalf and Lockett have 4 touchdowns combined.
