Seattle Seahawks: Offense gets an upgrade, Josh Gordon reinstated
The Seattle Seahawks offense just got a huge boost. Wide receiver Josh Gordon is reinstated and could join the team for their final two regular-season games.
Somebody in the NFL offices must read Pacific Northwest Sports. It was just five days ago when we posted an article about the league dragging their feet about reinstating Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Josh Gordon. Thursday, they finally made a decision.
The league reinstated the oft-suspended wide receiver on Thursday. He is eligible to start practice on Monday, December 21. In the meantime, he can start the team’s COVID-19 intake program. Also, Gordon can workout at the Seahawks facilities and attend team meetings (after he’s gone through COVID testing). If all goes well, he could play as soon as Game 15, just in time for the Rams rematch.
Gordon was suspended in 2019, after the Seattle Seahawks 15th game of the season. In effect, Gordon served a one-year ban for his relapse. He applied for reinstatement in June and signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks in September.
It’s a mystery as to why it took the NFL to make a ruling on Gordon’s status. Not even a comment in six months. Now, the dangerous receiver is back in the flock. That’s the second most important thing. The first is obviously keeping himself substance-free.
Seattle claimed the former Baylor Bears standout last season after New England put him on waivers. In five games with the Seahawks, Gordon caught seven passes for 139 yards. He certainly made an impression on quarterback Russell Wilson. After Thursday’s team walkthrough, RW3 had good things to say about Gordon, according to John Boyle at seahawks.com:
“He’s an amazing receiver. A guy who was great for us last year, made some great plays. Obviously he’s been a great player over his years, but more than anything else, it’s a testament hopefully to his growth in life.
Gordon becomes another big weapon for the Seahawks to use in their quest for a second Lombardi Trophy. Seattle already has the NFL’s best receiving tandem in Tyler Lockett and “The Mandalorian” D.K. Metcalf. Additionally, David Moore has done a fine job as the number three receiver, and so has rookie Freddie Swain in his limited role.
