Jacksonville isn’t any better this year than they were last year when they finished with the NFL’s worst record. The Jaguars have only won once in their previous 20 games, which happened last week against Miami. That includes 10 straight losses on the road.

Both teams have gone under in four of their most recent five games.

Last Week

New Orleans 13 – Seattle Seahawks 10

Monday night’s game was as dreary as the weather it was played in. After an early first quarter 84-yard scoring strike from Geno Smith to D.K. Metcalf, all the Seattle Seahawks could muster was three more points in the final three quarters. Seattle’s offense wasted the defense’s first good performance of the year.

  • WR D.K. Metcalf – 2 receptions for 96 yards and 1 touchdown.
  • DT Poona Ford – 6 tackles (3 solo) with 1 tackle for loss.

Jacksonville 23 – Miami 20

Two weeks ago, Jacksonville got their first win since September 13, 2020. Kicker Matthew Wright kicked a 53-yard field goal with 3:40 left to tie the game at 20. The defense held Miami on fourth-and-one from the 46. Four plays later, Wright nailed the game-winner from 54 yards away as time expired.

  • QB Trevor Lawrence – 25 of 41 passing for 319 yards and 1 touchdown.
  • RB James Robinson – 17 rushes for 73 yards and 1 touchdown; 3 receptions for 28 yards.
  • WR Marvin Jones Jr – 7 receptions for 100 yards and 1 touchdown,
  • LB Damien Wilson – 12 tackles.

Outlook

Jacksonville is still a trainwreck even with the additions of this year’s number one overall draft pick Trevor Lawrence and high-profile coach Urban Meyer. But hey, the Jags are on a one-game winning streak.

This is another game that should favor the Seahawks’ offense. Geno Smith will have an easier time in the pocket against a team with the fewest sacks in the league. Jacksonville is last in the NFL, allowing 297.8 passing yards per game. They also yield the 24th most points per game (28.7). It will be interesting to watch former Seattle cornerback Shaquill Griffin defend his ex-teammates.

On the other side of the ball, the Seahawks have to stop the NFL’s eighth leading rusher, James Robinson. If they do, Jacksonville’s middling pass game will struggle to put up points against a defense that is coming for their rookie quarterback. Jamal Adams will be a thorn in Trevor Lawrence’s side all day.

One final thing to watch for, Jacksonville is very turnover-prone with an NFL worst -10 takeaways/giveaways.

Matchups to watch

  • Seahawks WRs D.K. Metcalf vs. Jacksonville cornerback Shaquill Griffen.
  • Jacksonville RB James Robinson vs. Seahawks MLB Bobby Wagner.
  • Seahawks QB Geno Smith vs. Jacksonville defense.
  • Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence vs. Seahawks S Jamal Adams.

The Seattle Seahawks play at home against one of the NFL’s bottom-feeders. Sunday is a must-win game for the Seahawks to have any chance for a wild card. Final prediction Seahawks 27 – Jacksonville 14.
