Outlook

Kenneth Walker III will have it tough in his first Seahawks start. Arizona has one of the NFL’s best run defenses, allowing just 97.4 yards per game. It will be up to quarterback Geno Smith to open up the offense, which is very likely.

He’ll be able to take advantage of Arizona’s secondary. Despite stars like Budda Baker and Byron Murphy in the defensive backfield, opponents complete over 69% percent of their passes against the Cardinals for an average of 248.2 yards per game.

Historically, D.K. Metcalf doesn’t do well against Arizona, and he’s coming off an embarrassing Game 5 against New Orleans. Metcalf will be motivated to prove himself. If he can’t, look for Tyler Lockett to have another big day.

One possible hitch in that plan is Arizona’s aggressive pass rush. They blitz an NFL second-most 41.7% of their defensive plays.

This week Seattle’s offensive line will have their communication tested. A task made even more difficult if their veteran leader, Gabe Jackson, is out of action. Expect to see Arizona utilize some exotic-looking blitzes to confuse the Seattle Seahawks rookie tackles Charles Cross and Abe Lucas.

Arizona is without two of their top offensive playmakers, Hopkins and Connor. That gives the beleaguered Seattle Seahawks defense a chance to keep the game manageable.

They can not only keep a spy on Kyler Murray but also double-cover All-Pro tight end Zach Ertz. That will leave cornerback Tariq Woolen on an island against receiver Marquise Brown. That may work because as explosive as Brown can be, he’s only caught 69.1% of his targets.

This may be the week Seattle’s pass rush can get some pressure. In addition to their injuries, Arizona’s offensive line is average, and their center is a game-time decision.
