Outlook
Neither of these teams is very good. Our Chris Phillips was spot on in his opponent preview when he wrote that this game could go one of two ways.
In scenario one, the game gets bogged down and turns into a 60-minute quagmire. If it does wind up as a three-and-out-a-thon, Michael Dickson is the punter Pete Carroll wants to flip the field.
Conversely, Sunday could turn into a shootout due to the poor defenses. Quarterbacks Geno Smith and Jared Goff will have receivers running open all over the field.
The injury bug hit Detroit hard. They are missing their best running back (Swift), best receiver (St. Brown), and a starting offensive lineman (Kraemer). The Lions need Goff to make some magic. But he’s not the type of quarterback who can carry a team on his back.
Look for the Seattle Seahawks to go all out to stop hard-nosed running back Jamaal Williams early and make Goff beat them.
On the other side, this week, the Seattle Seahawks should finally show how good the backfield duo of Rashaad Penny and Kenneth Walker III really is. Once the Lions’ defense is softened up, Seattle’s receivers will have space to get open. D.K. Metcalf should be able to take advantage of a favorable matchup.
Matchups to Watch
Seahawks WRs D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett vs. CBs Jeff Okudah and Amani Oruwariye.
TE T.J. Hockinson vs. Seahawks MLB Jordyn Brooks and S Quandre Diggs.
Seahawks C Austin Blythe vs. NT Alim McNeill
OTs Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker vs. Seahawks EDGE Uchenna Nwosu, Darrell Taylor, and Boye Mafe.
