Our game day eve report. PNWS lets you know who could miss the Seattle Seahawks Game 16 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Last week’s game between the Seattle Seahawks and L.A. Rams was boring and unentertaining. For those expecting offensive fireworks to open this one, they were very disappointed. The furthest either side got in the opening 30 minutes was their opponent’s 23-yard line. At halftime, the score was a 6–6 tie.

While still not an offensive explosion, the Seahawks outscored Los Angeles 14–3 in the second half. Seattle’s first touchdown came on the opening drive of the third quarter. Their big play was on a third and eight from Seattle’s 32. The Rams flushed Russell Wilson out of the pocket. Rolling to his right, RW3 hit receiver David Moore 45 yards down the sideline with a perfect pass.

Three plays later, an 18-yard completion to Carlos Hyde set up the Seahawks on the L.A. four. On a play-action, Wilson rolled out to his left and ran at the pilon for six points.

Meanwhile, Seattle’s defense stepped up, keeping the Rams in check. Los Angeles only picked up three points and gained 141 yards in the second half. That included a huge four-play goal-line stand on the possession after Wilson’s touchdown run.

With the win, wrapped up Pete Carroll wrapped up his fifth NFC West title as the Seattle Seahawks head coach.

Injuries

Seattle Seahawks

Out IR – WR Josh Gordon (suspended), DE Bruce Irvin (knee), S Marquise Blair (knee), WR Phillip Dorsett (foot), S Lano Hill (back), CB Neiko Thorpe (groin), RB Travis Homer (knee), CB Quinton Dunbar (knee), OL Jamarco Jones (groin).

Questionable – G Mike Iupati (neck), TE Greg Olsen (foot). S Damarious Randall (foot

Notes – The Seahawks offensive line could be a problem again this week. Shell is on the reserve COVID-19 list. Iupati and Olsen didn’t practice all week, but both are listed as questionable.  With Hyde fighting illness, Rashaad Penny could see an increased role this week.

For the first time in a long time, Seattle is healthy on defense. Carlos Dunlap was a regular at practice Wednesday and Thursday. It was the same with defensive tackle Brian Mone.

San Francisco

Out IR – QB Jimmy Garoppolo, RB Raheem Mostert, DE Dee Ford, DE Nick Bosa, DL Ziggy Ansah, QB Nick Mullens, DE Solomon Thomas, CB JaMycal Hasty, OT Tom Compton.

Out – WR Deebo Samuel, WR Brandon Aiyuk, LB Dre Greenlaw, CB Richard Sherman, DT Javon Kinlaw, DL Kevin Givens.

Questionable – DB Tarvarious Moore (ankle), CB Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring), LB Mark Nzeocha (illness).

Notes – This game was originally scheduled for Levi’s Field. It was moved because Santa Clara County, California, canceled all contact sports as a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19. So the NFL moved the game to State Farm Field in Phoenix, home of the Arizona Cardinals.

San Francisco’s offense is almost gutted. Sunday, they play without quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, running back Raheem Mostert, and wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. Their defense is also shorthanded. They are missing key members like Richard Sherman and Nick Bosa.

This is far from the team that represented the NFC in last year’s Super Bowl. It’s not even close to the team that lost to the Seattle Seahawks 37-27 in Week 8.
