Interesting Trends

The Seattle Seahawks once-promising season is on the verge of collapse after losing 5 of their last 6 games. They also failed to cover the spread in any of them. The total has gone over in 7 of Seattle’s last 10 games.

New York has also gone 1-5 over their last six, covering twice. With their struggling offense and strong defense, it’s no surprise New York went under in 8 of the previous 10 games.

By the Numbers

Seahawks offense vs. Carolina defense

  • Rushing yards per game Seahawks – 109.8 (19th) vs. Rushing yards against per game NYJ – 113.9 (11th).
  • Passing yards per game Seahawks – 238.7 (11th) vs. Passing yards against per game NYJ – 195.5 (5th).
  • Total yards per game Seahawks – 348.5 (13th) vs. Total yards against per game NYJ – 309.3 (3rd).
  • Points per game Seahawks – 24.3 (10th) vs. Points per game against NYJ – 18.8 (4th).
  • QB sacks allowed Seahawks – 39 (22nd) vs. QB sacks NYJ – 40 (9th-tied).

New York’s defense is tough. They cover receivers well and can get after the quarterback. Also, the Seahawks running backs will find it hard to run up the middle against Quinnen Williams.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t areas that Seattle can exploit. Tight end Noah Fant has an advantage over NYJ’s safeties and linebackers. And while Kenneth Walker might not be able to run inside, he can do damage catching passes in the flat.

Seahawks defense vs. NYJ offense

  • Rushing yards per game NYJ – 104.9 (24th) vs. Rushing yards against per game Seahawks – 155.5 (31st).
  • Passing yards per game NYJ – 224.7 (15th) vs. Passing yards against per game Seahawks – 217.9 (17th).
  • Total yards per game NYJ – 329.5 (18th) vs. Total yards against per game Seahawks – 373.4 (29th).
  • Points per game NYJ – 18.9 (25th) vs. Points per game against Seahawks – 25.3 (29th).
  • QB sacks allowed NYJ – 38 (21st) vs. QB sacks Seahawks – 36 (15th-tied).

The Seattle Seahawks defense has been inconsistent in recent weeks. Maybe they catch a break at home against NYJ.

Mike White has been an improvement over Zach Wilson since taking over the quarterback job three weeks ago. But he isn’t a proven commodity, either. The Jets offensive line is injury-riddled, and with running back Breece Hall out of action, the ground game has struggled.
