Last Game
Indianapolis 31 – Houston 0
Last week Houston suffered the first shutout loss in franchise history, and it wasn’t even close. Indianapolis humiliated the Texans, outgaining them 381-169 but more importantly outscoring them 31-0.
- QB Davis Mills – 6 of 14 passing for 49 yards.
- RB Rex Burkhead – 8 carries for 30 yards, 1 reception for 15 yards.
- WR Brandin Cooks – 3 receptions for 38 yards, 1 carry for 15 yards.
- LB Kamu Grugier-Hill – 20 tackles (10 solo), 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack.
San Francisco 23 – Seattle Seahawks 30
It took a trick play to ignite a dormant Seahawks offense. Running back Travis Homer took a fake punt 75 yards to paydirt on the fourth play of the game that got Seattle going early. San Francisco rallied back for 17 unanswered points, but the Seahawks were undeterred.
The defense rallied in the second half. They forced a pair of turnovers and sacked Niner’s QB in the end zone for a safety. However, their biggest feat was stopping San Francisco on four plays inside the 10-yard line with under a minute left in the game to preserve a 30-23 win.
- QB Russell Wilson – 30 of 37 passing for 231 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception.
- RB Travis Homer – 3 carries for 80 yards, 4 reception for 10 yards.
- WR Tyler Lockett – 7 receptions for 68 yards and 1 touchdown.
- LB Jordyn Brooks – 12 tackles (6 solo), 1 tackle for loss.
Outlook
This is a game the Seattle Seahawks should win. Houston is down to their third-string quarterback, Davis Mills, and he’s playing behind a patchwork offensive line. Additionally, his top two offensive weapons Brandin Crooks and David Johnson, are a bit banged up. It’s a good week for Seattle to experiment with various defensive packages in the wake of losing Jamal Adams for the season.
On the other side, Houston is missing several key players from their defense. They still have second-year defensive end Jonathan Greenard, who leads the Texans with eight sacks this season. With Seahawks right tackle Brandon Shell out this week, His replacement Jack Curhan will have his hands full protecting Russell Wilson.
Matchups to watch
- Seahawks WRs D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett vs. Houston CBs Desmond King and Terrance Mitchell.
- Houston LT Geron Christian vs. Seahawks LEOs Darrell Taylor and Carlos Dunlap.
- Seahawks OLB Jordyn Brooks vs. Houston RB David Johnson.
- Houston WR Brandin Cooks vs. Seahawks CB D.J. Reed.
