Outlook
The defending Super Bowl champions have been hit hard by injuries and, as a result, have only won three games this season.
Seahawks offense vs. Rams defense
On the bright side, the Seattle Seahawks interior offensive line got an early Christmas present. The biggest thorn in their side, the past few seasons, Aaron Donald won’t play due to an ankle injury. QB Geno Smith will also give thanks that #99 sits this one out.
The Rams have former Seahawks All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner to anchor their defense. Pete Carroll wants to run the ball. Wagner knows how and where they want to do it. Add that to the league’s fourth-ranked run defense, and it will be hard for Seattle to do what they want.
All hope is not lost. L.A.’s pass defense was mediocre at best. Now they’ll play Sunday without Donald, two linebackers, and a defensive back. Smith should have time in the pocket to find D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Marquise Goodwin, or one of his many tight ends.
Seahawks defense vs. Rams offense
Seattle’s defense should have a good day. The Rams running game is suspect, and now their passing attack is without receivers Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson.
L.A.’s biggest issue is at quarterback. Matt Stafford will also miss the game. He’s out due to a concussion.
The Rams offensive line is also struggling with injuries. Look for the Seattle Seahawks pass rush to get to Stafford’s replacement John Wohlford.
Matchups to Watch
- Seahawks WRs D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett vs. Los Angeles CBs David Long and Jalen Ramsey.
- Los Angeles MLB Booby Wagner vs. Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll and OC Shane Waldron.
- Seahawks OT Charles Cross vs. Los Angeles OLB Leonard Floyd.
- Vegas TE Tyler Higbee vs. Seahawks S Joey Blount.
