Outlook

It’s interesting that San Francisco is a 9.5-point favorite. They might not score 9 points.

Niners quarterback Trey Lance looked awful last week in Chicago. To make matters worse, San Francisco lost their starting running back Elijah Mitchell, and their all-everything tight end George Kittle may not play.

One player the Seattle Seahawks have to keep a lid on is wide receiver, Deebo Samuel. He’s a dynamic dual threat who can break a big play any time he touches the ball.

Seattle catches a big break if Kittle doesn’t play because they lost their All-Pro safety, Jamal Adams, last week to a hamstring injury. Josh Jones will fill Adams’s position, but not his on-field presence.

Aside from minding Samuel, the Seahawks defense will try to make Lance uncomfortable in the pocket. The young QB is prone to mistakes, whether they be interceptions or sacks.

Sunday is a stiff test for Seattle’s offense. The Niners have an exceptional front seven. They will give rookie tackles Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas.

The Seahawks can snatch a second upset, provided they can handle two big “ifs.”

If QB Geno Smith can get time in the pocket, his wide receivers D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett have beatable matchups. That task becomes easier if they can open holes for running backs, Rashaad Penny and Kenneth Walker.

Matchups to watch
