Seattle Seahawks: How does the Tyler Locket – D.K. Metcalf duo stack up?

D.K. Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks.

Now that the Seattle Seahawks secured Tyler Lockett long term, we discuss where he and receiver partner D.K. Metcalf stack up in the NFL.

What the Seattle Seahawks have in Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf is special. What this duo does on the field should not be taken for granted. Lockett and Metcalf are two of the very best wide receivers in the NFL. Prior to Metcalf’s arrival, Lockett, who Doug Baldwin groomed, was the toast of the team.

How highly do the Seahawks regard Lockett? Enough for the salary cap-strapped team to give him a four-year, $69.2M contract with $37M. His value has gone even higher since D.K. Metcalf joined the team in 2019.

Metcalf has all the desired measurables, but he, too, was brought along slowly. It wasn’t until about halfway through 2019 that Metcalf became someone that opponents have to game plan against. This year he’s made every team regret letting him slip to the end of 2019’s second round (64th overall).

These two are probably the best pair of wide receivers the Seahawks have since Darrell Jackson and Koren Robinson? Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin or Darrell Jackson and Bobby Engram can be argued to be better or on the same level. Those duos were great, but when it’s all said and done, this current pair of receivers will blow them all out of the water.

So, let’s talk about this current duo some more. It may be a little premature to rank them so highly, but the truth is the sky is the limit. They’re both young and have a fantastic quarterback throwing them the ball.

It’s early in Metcalf’s career to consider him in the hall of fame, but that’s his current trajectory. Last year, only his second in the NFL, Metcalf broke the Seahawks record for most receiving yards in a season.
