Seattle Seahawks: Pick Your #1 QB, Geno Smith or Trey Lance
Sunday’s Seattle Seahawks – San Francisco matchup pits two quarterbacks who have struggled in their careers. Which QB would you rather have, Geno Smith or Trey Lance?
Simple Question, Or Is it?
The question at hand is: Seattle Seahawks fans, who would you rather build a franchise around? Geno Smith or Trey Lance? There are many differences between the two of them. Geno Smith has been around for what seems like forever. Meanwhile, Lance is just getting started. However, they are more similar than most fans might realize.
Who Has A Better Win-Loss Record?
The truth is that neither of these two QBs has a great win-loss record. Coming into this Sunday’s game, Trey Lance is 1-2, while Geno Smith is 14-21. So Trey has a win percentage of 33 percent while Geno’s is 40 percent. So neither one is exactly the cornerstone you want to base your franchise off of.
Better Passer?
There is not a huge difference in completion percentage, Trey’s is 54.5 percent, and Geno’s is 59.5 percent. Once again, not a great reason to have confidence in either QB. Trey has an average QBR of 84, while Geno’s is 77. So Trey has a worse completion percentage but a better overall QBR. So I would give the edge to Trey in this category.
Better Runner?
They both average 4.4 yards per rushing attempt at this point in their respective careers. The main difference that I can detect between their rushing prowess would be that Geno Smith has been able to get a total of 8 TDs, and Trey has only gotten 1 rushing TD. However, this is not impressive, considering how many more games he has played than Trey. So I would give the edge to Trey in this category as well.
More Potential
While Geno Smith has carved out a respectable career as a backup QB, I do not believe he has anywhere near the potential Trey Lance has. He is just starting his career and has an innovative offensive mind in Kyle Shanahan to teach him the offense as well. Geno has thrown 36 TDs along with 37 INTs, while Trey has thrown 5 TDs along with 3 INTs.
Who’s the Man?
At this point in their respective careers, it is unfair to compare these two QBs. However, If I’m choosing a QB for his leadership, I would probably choose Geno. If I had to choose a QB for his overall potential, I would choose Trey.
When it comes to Sunday’s matchup, we will be watching two QBs with some similarities, but they are at very different points in their career. At any rate, it will be fun to watch these two QBs battle it out and see who comes out on top as the victor.
