The game started very quickly for both offenses, as there were a total of one FG and two TDs over the first five drives of the game. At that point, the score was 10-7 in favor of the Seattle Seahawks.
Then with 12 minutes left in the second quarter, the scoring stopped. This lack of points was due to a turnover on downs by the Seahawks, two punts by the Cardinals, and a fumble by Cardinals’ quarterback Kyler Murray. The clock ran out on Seattle before they could capitalize.
The second half started slowly with three punts before Geno Smith made a big mistake. He threw an errant pass that Zaven Collins took to the house for a pick-six.
Smith showed leadership and resiliency by responding with a 13-play, 75-yard TD Drive. The Seattle Seahawks featured some Kenneth Walker runs and a couple of completions to Will Dissly and Tyler Lockett. It culminated with a 9-yard touchdown reception by #16.
The Seattle Seahawks took over in the fourth quarter scoring two touchdowns. Both ran in by Walker.
In between, Arizona squeezed in a 75-yard touchdown drive that ended with a 6-yard TD pass to tight end Zach Ertz.
On the Cardinals final possession, they turned it over on downs, and the Seahawks kneeled two times to run out the clock and seal the Seattle Seahawks’ 31-21 victory.
2nd Dishonorable Mention
Middle linebacker Cody Barton is this week’s second dishonorable mention. As in where did Cody Barton go? He finished the game with three total tackles, and his name was hardly called.
He’s played well enough this season that 12s notice when his performance drags.
1st dishonorable mention
Our first dishonorable mention goes to Dareke Young. The rookie had an offensive pass interference call in the second quarter that killed a promising drive.
The Seahawks ended up punting on that drive instead of scoring a touchdown or at least kicking a field goal.
The Dud of the Week goes to safety Quandre Diggs. His offensive pass interference penalty in the second quarter negated an interception by Coby Bryant.
Seattle would have been in position to open a big league with the ball on Arizona’s 22 yard line. Instead, the Cards ran a few minutes off the clock, and punter Andy Lee pinned the Seahawks deep in their own territory.
2nd Honorable Mention
The second honorable mention this week goes to Seattle Seahawks cornerbacks Tariq Woolen, Mike Jackson, and Coby Bryant. Seattle’s DB trio combined to keep receiver DeAndre Hopkins from making an impact. They held the three-time All-Pro to four receptions for only 36 yards and one TD.
1st Honorable Mention
How about edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu? Our first honorable mention gave Kyler Murray fits all day.
He finished the game with 2 sacks, 3 QB hits, and 4 total tackles. The only blemish on his game was an offside penalty that helped the Cardinals to sustain a drive.
It’s no surprise that Geno Smith is our Stud of the Week. The Seattle Seahawks quarterback keeps finding ways to win.
He did throw a pick-six in the game. But turned himself and the team around afterward with a sustained 75-yard touchdown drive.
Smith finished the game with 26 completions on 34 attempts for 275 yards, 2 TDs, and that interception. He continues to make the Seattle Seahawks look like geniuses by trading Russell Wilson and trusting the team to him as the starting quarterback.
