Seattle Seahawks Dud and Stud of Game 7 vs. Chargers

For the third time in four games, the Seattle Seahawks scored over 35 points in a 37-23 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Here are our Dud and Stud of the game.

Even in a week that saw the Seattle Seahawks winning 37-23 over the Chargers, there were plenty of reasonable candidates for the dud of the week.

2nd Dishonorable Mention

The second dishonorable mention goes to the injury gremlin this week. Several players went down on both sides of the ball at one time or another.

Seattle Seahawks star receiver D.K. Metcalf was the first player to leave with an injury after he landed awkwardly trying to make a catch in the red zone at the end of the first quarter. Dee Eskridge (who returned later in the game) was the second Seahawk to go down with an injury on the play that Geno Smith fumbled.

On the very first play of the 2nd half, the kickoff, Nick Bellore suffered a concussion. A little later, so did guard Phil Haynes. Edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu gave the Seattle Seahawks a scare when he came off the field hurt but eventually returned to the game.

It wasn’t much better for the Chargers. On Seattle’s second drive of the second half, they lost linebacker Drue Tranquill. Later, Chris Rumph sprained an MCL on a punt.

It got worse. Cornerback J.C. Jackson will miss the rest of 2022 with a ruptured patellar tendon, and Williams is out for several weeks with a high ankle sprain.

1st Dishonorable Mention

The first dishonorable mention goes to Uchenna Nwosu. The Seahawks had a chance to keep the Chargers out of the endzone and ice the game late in the fourth quarter, but Nwosu messed it up. On a 4th and goal play from the Seattle 3-yard line, Nwosu had a false start that negated a Coby Bryant interception keeping L.A.’s drive alive. Austin Ekeler ran it in from the one a play later.

Dud of the Week

This week’s Dud of the Week goes to D.K. Metcalf. Yes, he left the game injured near the end of the first quarter, but that capped off an already bad day.

Before hurting his knee, Metcalf had 4 drops. Not only that, an offensive pass interference call against him almost killed a touchdown drive. The Seahawks were bailed out by defensive pass interference on 3rd-and-13.
