Interesting Trends: On the bright side, the Seattle Seahawks have won 12 of their last 18 games, including 9 of 13 against NFC opponents, and 8 of 10 on the road. For anyone planning to bet on the Seahawks, in their last six games, they are 1-4-1 versus the spread. Additionally, they have not fared well against the number on opening day, going 0-4-1 in their previous five. The total has gone over in seven of the last nine meetings between these teams.

Last Season

An 11-5 record once again led the Seattle Seahawks the playoffs. They qualified as a wild card team and won their first-round matchup against Philadelphia before falling to Green Bay in the Divisional Round. It was the eighth time in Pete Carroll’s 10 years at the Seahawks helm that they made the postseason.

The Falcons had a Hyde and Jeckyl season in 2019. They started 1-7 before rallying in the second half of the season to finish 7-9. It was their second straight sub .500 season after two double-digit win seasons.

When the teams met last October at CenturyLink Field, Seattle almost blew a 24-0 halftime lead. They had just 52 yards in the second half as Atlanta rallied. Ultimately, the Seahawks held on for a 27-20 victory.

This week

It’s always tough for a West Coast team to fly across the country and play in the early game. With travel restrictions, the Seattle Seahawks won’t be able to arrive early to get acclimated. Since this is the first game of the year, it might not be as difficult for Seattle. The game is also indoors and fan-less, so Atlanta has virtually no home-field advantage.

Will Carroll let Russell Wilson cook, or do the Seahawks ram the ball down Atlanta’s gullet? Either way, it’s up to a rebuilt Hawks offensive line to come together and get the job done. On the other side, Seattle may have the best back seven in the game. Hopefully, the front four can be just as effective.

The Seahawks score early, control the ball and leave the ATL with a win.

Matchups to watch

DT Grady Jarrett vs. Seattle C Ethan Pocic – Seahawks new starting center will have his hands full with Atlanta’s to run stuffer.

WR Julio Jones vs. Seattle cornerbacks – Jones is the best wide receiver in the league.

Seahawks DL vs. Atlanta OL – The Seattle defensive had just 28 sacks last year. They must find a way to pressure Falcons QB, Matt Ryan.

I like Seattle to cover the 2.5, and the total should go over.
