Seattle Seahawks: After Round 1, draft breaking well for Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks Draft
Samuel Cosmi, Texas Longhorns.

There is still plenty of talent on the board in the 2021 NFL Draft. Picking 24th on Friday, the Seattle Seahawks will get a good player. Here’s a look at the best available in positions of need.

Round 1 of the 2021 NFL Draft is history. The Seattle Seahawks traded their first-round pick to the New York Jets for Jamal Adams so they were idle on Thursday. Day 2 is a different story. Seattle picks 24th in Round 2. With the way Day 1 went, things are falling nicely for the Seahawks.

We’ve written about the Seahawks’ positional needs several times, but here is a brief recap of their most pressing issues.

LinebackerK.J. Wright is still a free agent, which leaves a big hole to fill. The Seahawks say the door is open for Wright to return, but until he signs a contract, so is his job.

Offensive tackle – RT Brandon Shell doesn’t pass protect well enough and 36-year-old LT Duane Brown has a year left on his contract.

Center – Starter Ethan Pocic is a better guard than center. He’ll be the 2022 starting left guard after Gabe Jackson‘s contract expires.

Wide receiver – Last year’s number three wideout David Moore left in free agency. None of the other backup receivers on the roster showed enough to think that they can fill his shoes just yet.

Thursday, Seattle signed another mid-level defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche. While the competition to replace Jarren Reed isn’t full of top-tier quality, Al Woods, Bryan Mone, Rasheem Green, and Nkemdiche as a group are capable of doing the job. Unless someone unexpectedly falls in their lap, defensive tackle can wait until day three.

Best of the rest

Here are the best players available at the Seahawks’ biggest positions of need with their big board rankings from ESPN’s Todd McShay, Pro Football Focus, and NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah.

Linebacker

Nick Bolton, Missouri (ESPN: 40, PFF: 34, NFL: 34).

Jabril Cox, LSU (47, 46, 58).

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Notre Dame (12, 19, 15).

Pete Werner, Ohio State (99, 97, 64).

Offensive Tackle

Spencer Brown, Northern Iowa (77, 141, 66)

Samuel Cosmi, Texas (66, 38, 61).

Liam Eichenberg, Notre Dame (33, 52, 47).

Teven Jenkins, Oklahoma State (26, 31, 36).

Walker Little, Stanford (62, 26, 76)

Dillon Radunz, North Dakota State (39, 32, 37).

Center

Landon Dickerson, Alabama (45, 44, 40).

Robert Hainsey, Notre Dame (175, 100, 82)*

Creed Humphrey, Oklahoma (55, 62, 53)

Quinn Meinerz, Wisconsin-Whitewater (61, 51, 45)

*Graded at right tackle.

Wide Receiver

Dyami Brown, North Carolina (99, 45, 68).

Terrace Marshall Jr., LSU (46, 28, 48).

Elijah Moore, Mississippi (23, 22, 26).

Rondale Moore, Purdue (54, 33, 70).

There is plenty of quality out there to help the Seattle Seahawks in 2021. I’d like Bolton or Jenkins, but they may be gone by 56th overall. My Money is on Cox, Eichenberg, or Cosmi.
