Seattle Seahawks: 2022 Top 5 Under 25

By Clint Prasky

As part of Pacific Northwest Sports’ series of up-and-coming players on the professional teams we cover, Clint Prasky counts down the Seattle Seahawks Top 5 under 25.

Heading into the 2022 offseason, we start off with the Seattle Seahawks Top 5 players under 25 years of age. We highlight Seattle’s younger talent and see how the future looks so far. There are a few obvious bright spots on this team, and I hope to shine a light on a couple of others as well. The Seahawks’ current roster holds a few more gems than most give it credit for.

The Seattle Seahawks don’t get much ‘spect from the national media. The team isn’t as baron as they think. For years 12s have heard the Seahawks offensive line needs work, like General Manager John Schneider hasn’t tried to bring in new talent. Those who have been actually watching the team saw that they gave the O-line a good upgrade when they could. Two rookie linemen from last season are in the mix.

In the discussion

There are some important players on the Seattle Seahawks who should be discussed. They include Alton Robinson (23), Stone Forsythe (24), and Jake Curhan (24). Edge rusher Robinson needs to see the field more. When he is out there, he is disruptive.

Offensive tackles Forsythe and Curhan got some limited time on the line this year. Curhan, an undrafted free agent from Cal, is listed as Seattle’s second-string RT and saw some major snaps at the end of the year when Brandon Shell went down. He’s a little ahead of Forsythe at this point.

Just Missed

It seems as though Rasheem Green has been on the team forever. How could he still be under 25? Well, Green is 24, and this past season he posted 6.5 sacks in a rotational role. Green likely belongs on the list, but I’m not sure he’ll be with the Seahawks next year, which is why I left him out.

5. Tre Brown – CB

Stating us off in this list is Tre Brown, a promising young corner that showed tenacity and toughness in his rookie season of 2021. Along with q willingness to get in there and make a tackle even on run downs.

Brown started the season on Seattle’s injured list. He came back in Week 6 and played strongly through Week 11 before tearing a tendon in his knee cap. Brown played well during this five-game stretch. Opponents completed less than 50 percent of the passes thrown to the targets he covered.

Going forward, he has a good chance to lock down the right-side cornerback spot and become a cornerstone of Seattle’s future defense.

4. Damien Lewis – G

Fourth on my list is Damien Lewis. Some people thought Lewis had a down year this year. That may be true, but he also switched positions last year from right guard to left guard. Sometimes doing everything backward is a hard transition to make.

Lewis is the best young offensive lineman the Seahawks have, and maybe with a switch back to the right side, he can become a Pro Bowler. The future of the line starts with Lewis, and he isn’t a bad building block at all.

3. Darrell Taylor – Edge

Edge rusher Darrell Taylor is next on the list. He missed his entire first season of 2020 with a leg injury. Then this season, fully healed, he posted 6.5 sacks as part of the rotation at the Seahawks LEO (left end outside) rotation.

Taylor showed a few signs of rust, but he still got pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Even better, the former University of Tennessee star improved greatly during the season. His sack total was good for second on the team. With more reps, those sack totals should rise to 10 or more.

2. Jordyn Brooks – LB

Our second most valuable player under 25 is linebacker Jordyn Brooks. The Seahawks SAM linebacker turned in a phenomenal 2021 season. To the tune of a team record, 184 total tackles, which was also good for second in the entire NFL.

His foot speed and play awareness will propel him to many Pro Bowls and personal accolades in the near future. At some point, Brooks will take over for the perennial All-Pro Bobby Wagner as the captain of the defense and become an All-Pro himself. The sky is the limit for him, just as it is for our number one player on offense under 25. Drum Roll, please.

1. D.K. Metcalf – WR

Topping the list is none other than D.K. Metcalf. Of course, he is the Seattle Seahawks’ best player under 25. There is no real debate on this; he has three seasons under his belt to date and has set the team record for receiving yards in a season. Even in a “down year,” he set a personal high of 12 TD’s. It’s not hard to see Metcalf and Russell Wilson teaming up to break many records in the future.

D.K has just scratched the surface of what he can do, and 12s are lucky to have a front-row seat to watch his career unfold. It’s going to be fun watching him “Moss” opposing corners for the next decade-plus.

The youngster from Mississippi is on his way to Canton, assuming he stays healthy. I’m not saying he has earned it yet, but with his current career trajectory, he looks like a gold jacket quality star. His future is the brightest of all Seattle’s youngsters, and I look for the Seahawks to extend him at some point this offseason and wrap him up for the foreseeable future.

The Seattle Seahawks cupboards are stocked more than some would have you believe. This team isn’t far from contending again. Another good draft or two, and they can be right back in the thick of things.
