Outlook

In the 2023 regular season finale, the Seattle Sea Dragons are close to a win and in the playoffs scenario. After St. Louis beat Orlando on Saturday, if Seattle wins on Sunday, the teams finish with identical 7-3 records.

Based on the rules and how the season played out, the teams are even on the first three tiebreakers. The fourth tiebreaker is “best combined ranking among division teams in points scored and points allowed in all games.”

Here’s what needs to happen for the Seattle Sea Dragons to advance; they must score 34 or more points while allowing Vegas fewer than 34 points.

This game is the June Jones special. Seattle’s offensive coordinator will pull out all the stops against the XFL’s second-worst scoring defense.

As long as quarterback Ben DiNucci can get the ball to his playmakers and limit turnovers, the Sea Dragons should score the necessary points. Expect receivers Jahcour Pearson (XFL’s leading receiver), Josh Gordon, and Blake Jackson to have big days.

On the other side, Seattle catches a break as Vegas is without star receiver Martavis Bryant. That frees up their double team for Vipers leading receiver Jeff Badet. If it weren’t challenging enough for Vegas QB Jalan McClendon, his leading rusher Rod Smith out of the game with an injury.

The Seattle Sea Dragons should win, cover, and make the playoffs in front of their home fans.
