Portland Trail Blazers should be wary of trading for this Pacers duo

Moda Center, Portland Trail Blazers.

The Portland Trail Blazers may be active at the trade deadline. At least the fan base wants them to be. Two names that routinely come up are current Indiana Pacers. They should think twice before bringing the duo to Rip City.

Fans of the Portland Trail Blazers have been clamoring for the organization to make some trades. Let’s ignore the fact they don’t currently have a GM, so making trades could be dangerous. I’ve routinely heard/seen fans bring up a pair of Indiana Pacers, Domantas Sabonis, and Myles Turner.

Can we Pump the brakes on this for a sec? I understand why people want them. Sabonis is the son of legendary Portland Trail Blazers center Arvidas Sabonis, making him a legacy. Turner plays more like the prototypical modern NBA big man. Getting both of them isn’t a good idea.

Yes, the Pacers are a bad team. Many rumors are circulating that Indy will be sellers at the NBA trade deadline. However, the Portland Trail Blazers shouldn’t add both players.

Since playing Sabonis and Turner together in the starting lineup, Indiana hasn’t been a good team. The Pacers have tried several coaches, with the hope that one of them could unlock something. As the results show, that never happened. So, why should anyone think that a fourth head coach, and a rookie one at that, would be any different?

We also need to add that today’s NBA is all about spacing, guard/wing play, and only playing one traditional big man at a time. For those who are still reading this and still saying, “this guy is wrong. He has no idea what he’s talking about.” Well, then for you, I say look at the Indiana Pacers roster.

They already have an above-average backcourt of Malcolm Brogdon and Caris Levert. While these two aren’t Damian Lillard or CJ McCollum, they are, however, good enough to show that a Sabonis and Turner pairing wouldn’t work for the Portland Trail Blazers either. Then there is the added dimension that both Sabonis and Turner are injured, so they may not be able to help Portland much this season anyway.

So, again, let’s be logical about wanting both players in Rip City uniforms. However, the Portland Trail Blazers should seriously consider getting one of the two. Which one that is, is a debate for another day. Both Sabonis and Turner players come with their own unique list of pros and cons.
