Gonzaga Bulldogs: March Madness #1 overall seed for second straight year

Drew Timme, Gonzaga Bulldogs.

For the second year in a row, the Gonzaga Bulldogs are the number one overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

On Selection Sunday, the Gonzaga Bulldogs claimed the number one seed overall in the NCAA Tournament. With an incredible year, this incredible team has been chosen as the best team in the nation. Not just in the Pacific Northwest or the West, but over everybody! Everybody!

The West

  1. Gonzaga Bulldogs
  2. Duke
  3. Texas Tech
  4. Arkansas
  5. Connecticut

The Number One team in the nation

Drew Timme, Chet Holmgren, Andrew Nembhard, Julian Strawther, and Rasir Bolton. They are the number one starting five in the nation. Their reserves, led by the “quiet enforcer,” Anton Watson, along with Nolan Hickman, and Hunter Sallis, make for the number one bench in the country. I guess you can see I love saying that. The Bulldogs worked hard enough for it.

2021-22 is the tournament that the Gonzaga Bulldogs will win. It has been 24 years. Twenty-four years that Coach Mark Few has been getting teams in the NCAA Tournament. Last season, Jalen Suggs, the Gonzaga the highest-ranked recruit in Zags history (to that point), sent GU to the Finals with his historic buzzer-beater. Then the Baylor Bears shut us up and shut us out. That’s because the Zags had no Power Five.

Have the Gonzaga Bulldogs learned from last year? Yes, Gonzaga did. At the beginning of the season, they played six Power Five teams. They lost to two teams, Duke and Alabama, while beating Texas, Texas Tech, and UCLA. Are the Zags ready? Yes, they are.

Can they win it all this year?

Does the name Chet Holmgren ring any bells? Chet Holmgren, the Slim Reaper, the Unicorn, will be the difference in 2022. Last season it was Jalen Suggs. He, Corey Kispert and Drew Timme, a.ka. “The Terrifying Trio” led a team that fell one win short of a National Championship.

They had an undefeated season. Style-wise, West Virginia was the closest team to Baylor Gonzaga played during the 2020-21 season. Unfortunately, they never got to play the scheduled regular season game against Baylor due to the pandemic. A game where they could have learned how to beat them.

This 2021-22 season shows the Gonzaga Bulldogs learned from that loss. Drew Timme has to be the leader of the Bulldogs. He is the one that his teammates will follow into the battles ahead. GU finished the season Number 1 in the country for the second year in a row. They’ve been building towards a title for years.

In 2018 they made it to the Sweet Sixteen. In 2019 they made it to the Elite Eight. There was no tournament in 2020. Last year they made it to the title game. That means next up is a championship.

This is Gonzaga’s year. The year of the Unicorn and the Stache. Finally, 2022 is Coach Mark Few’s year, and he’s worked hard to get here.

Yes, the Gonzaga Bulldogs can win it all this year. They know what they must do to win. All they have to do, like Nike says, the Bulldogs will “Just do it.”
