Davy Jones Makes his Seattle Kraken Debut
The Seattle Kraken introduced the newest member of their team on Monday night. Prior to their win over Chicago, Davy Jones made his debut.
Looking mighty dapper in his Seattle Kraken jersey, the players were introduced to the newest member of their team, Davy Jones, before their game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night. Outgoing, intelligent, and “the goodest boy on the ice,” the 4-month old husky mix rescue dog joined the Seattle Kraken as he trains to be a therapy dog.
The Kraken adopted Davy from Dog Gone Seattle, a shelter dedicated to saving homeless dogs placed in high-kill shelters. Many dogs are put in overcrowded shelters that don’t have the resources to care for the number of animals in their facility properly. Dog Gone Seattle gives them a second chance through rescue, fostering, and adoption.

The Benefits to Having a Team Dog
The mission of adopting, caring, and being active in training a team dog is so that the Seattle Kraken can give back to their community. Once Davy finishes his training as a therapy dog, he will help someone within the Kraken community.
Outside of helping an individual, his presence with the team will help the Seattle Kraken organization in their mission to get more involved in the community. While he is with the team, he will make appearances at home games and several community events.
A team dog will also give the Kraken a sense of responsibility and a common goal to work towards. Things haven’t been going their way on the ice. If they can find common ground off the ice, this could help them have a move cohesive work ethic off the ice.
Hockey is not an easy sport, but neither is being responsible for a 4-month old energetic puppy who is working towards very specific goals. If they can master that, imagine what they might be able to do on the ice.
Davy isn’t just the team’s dog either; he’s the fan’s dog. While we wait in limbo for the Seattle Kraken to announce their mascot, Davy Jones has essentially become the cute new face of the franchise. Fans can look forward to seeing him at the rink, even if Seattle isn’t performing well.
A very important part of training a therapy dog is to expose them to as many new people as possible. So while the socialization will be key in Davy’s training, it also gives fans an extra incentive to come and visit Climate Pledge Arena and get excited about something, despite the dismal outlook we already have on the season.
Good Luck Charm Already
Davy already seems to be working his magic. On his debut night, the Seattle Kraken defeated Chicago in a shootout, winning 3-2. This was their first win in 10 games. While Davy may not be solely responsible for the “W,” his presence definitely gave both the players and the fans something to get excited about before the opening puck drop.
It’s unlikely that Seattle will go on a crazy winning streak like the St. Louis Blues did during their Stanley Cup season in 2018-19. However, the introduction of their team dog seemed to give them the extra boost that they definitely needed after the discouragement of so many losses.
